Make connections, get career advice and learn about the needs, opportunities and recruiting practices of leading Minnesota startups. We expect to have 30-40 companies attend this year. In previous years, we've welcomed companies like Code42, Field Nation, Foodsby, GoKart Labs, Homi, Kipsu, Irish Titan, Mighty Spark, Reve Consulting, Sezzle, and The Nerdery. Maybe you're interested in exploring careers with companies outside of Minnesota? Students will meet with employers, get company tours, and learn about career opportunities. We'll also be exploring sights of the city, and there will be free time outside of our scheduled professional development for students to get a feel of the city themselves. Applications are open to all students, though space is very limited. Students are responsible for paying for flights and food. Hotel will be covered.

This workshop will outline the different types of interviews, how to best prepare and succeed in your interview, and provide you with suggested strategies you can use to answer some of the most commonly asked interview questions. This workshop will also help you learn some of the typical components of an offer and discover strategies for benchmarking and negotiating.

University of Nebraska Medical Center Cancer Research Doctoral Program Information Session (Wednesday, September 11th 2019, 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm CDT)
When: Wednesday, September 11th 2019, 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm CDT The Coordinator of the Cancer Research Doctoral Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) will be holding one-on-one meetings with students that are interested in learning about the advantages of a doctoral degree in cancer research and participating in the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP). The Cancer Research Doctoral Program at UNMC is offered through the Eppley Institute and is one of six participating programs in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (IGPBS). Supported in part by a training grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), this innovative Ph.D.-granting program in cancer biology trains future scientists to approach cancer research knowledgeably and creatively and to enter careers in which they can make a significant contribution. Graduate students work in state-of-the-art laboratories within the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center with nationally and internationally renowned scientists. All Cancer Research Doctoral Program students are paid a competitive stipend and have the cost of all tuition, fees and health insurance covered. Cancer Research Doctoral Program students at UNMC are engaged in work that addresses the root causes of cancer, as well as the means of enhancing the detection and treatment of cancer. This research employs a wide range of animal and cellular model systems, includes both basic and translational research, and focuses heavily on the molecular basis of cancer. Areas of particular strength include focus groups working on cancers of the prostate, breast, pancreas, colon and blood. Cancer research at UNMC is recognized and supported by the National Cancer Institute. The Cancer Research Doctoral Program is a dynamic multidisciplinary program with a very large faculty and student populations. The average time to graduation with a PhD is about 5 years. The graduates from our program are employed in scientific careers in many locations, particularly in universities and pharmaceutical companies. The Cancer Research students have a flexible curriculum tailored to their own educational background and research interests, which includes courses on the principles and methods of cancer research, experimental design, data analysis and presentation, and translation of cancer research discoveries into new treatments for patients. The students also attend the Short Course in Cancer Biology, which is a summer mini-conference course at UNMC that is taught by outstanding scientists a new cancer-related topic that is selected by the students each year.

It’s an in-depth professional and transformational experience that few business schools offer. Opportunities are available for undergrads in the Brand Enterprise, Consulting Enterprise, Funds Enterprise, and Ventures Enterprise. https://carlsonschool.umn.edu/enterprise-programs Students apply to be in the enterprise in October of their junior year because the Enterprise is a year-long program: spring of junior year and fall of senior year. Undergraduate students should not apply before October of their Junior year, due to course prerequisites.
