Environmental Educator and Youth Counselor – Education Internship

Location: Northern California (onsite housing provided)
Position Type: Full-time, seasonal (May 12th-August 8th)
Compensation: $5,000 + food, housing, utilities, training, and perks!

Are you passionate about environmental education and eager to empower children through hands-on outdoor learning?
This summer, take your skills as an Environmental Educator to the next level at Camp Augusta. As an Environmental Education Counselor, you’ll have the chance to teach fun and impactful environmental activities like beekeeping, creek stomping, outdoor kitchen herbalism, shelter building, and more—all while gaining 300+ hours of training in counseling, child development, and leadership.

Why This Internship Is Different:

By the end of the summer, your resume could reflect a one-of-a-kind internship where you:

  • Lead 5 campers daily, fostering their growth through hands-on, nature-based activities and intentional counseling.
  • Teach and facilitate over 12 environmentally focused clinics, such as:

    • Beekeeping
    • Outdoor Kitchen Herbalism
    • Shelter Building
    • Creek Stomping
    • And more!
  • Gain over 300 hours of training in emotional intelligence, psychology-based philosophies, activity facilitation, and more.
  • Make a difference by creating lasting memories and impactful experiences for campers and staff in a 90-acre forest community.

This internship is an incredible opportunity for students majoring in environmental studies, education, child development, and related fields. It’s a chance to apply your academic knowledge in a dynamic, real-world setting while developing your leadership and counseling skills.

We are also happy to co-design your internship based on the skills and development you seek.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead & Mentor: Facilitate daily wake-up and evening activities, ensuring campers build independence, confidence, and connection.
  • Teach Outdoor Skills: Lead 3-4 activity blocks a day (e.g., beekeeping, shelter building, creek stomping) and craft creative, engaging lesson plans.
  • Create & Perform: Use your creativity to develop themed activities and lead camp-wide evening programs—bring your playful energy to skits, songs, and character roles!
  • Personalized Camper Support: Build strong relationships with your cabin group, helping them grow emotionally and socially throughout the summer.
  • Collaborate & Learn: Work alongside a dedicated team of counselors to improve your teaching skills, problem-solving abilities, and group dynamics.

What We’re Looking For:

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 19 years of age by June 1st, 2026
  • Availability from May 12th to August 8th, 2026
  • Ability to commit 3-5 hours per week of pre-camp onboarding tasks
  • One of the following:
    • 1+ summer of camp experience
    • 100+ hours of mentorship or youth work
    • A related major or career intent to work with youth

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with youth (camp, mentoring, or education)
  • Passion for the environment and sustainable living
  • Excitement for learning and a GPA of 3.0+
  • A variety of hobbies or life experiences you’re eager to share

  • 75+ hours of experiential learning in psychology-based philosophies and approaches
  • 45+ hours learning activities within our 150+ clinic offerings
  • 180+ hours of learning camp by doing camp
  • 9 Weeks of Summer Practicing: Being responsible for cabins of 5 campers at a time, and applying all the skills above to camp activities and discussions.

We can teach you the activities that most spark your excitement and creativity. And you can teach us if there are new activities that you would like to create here!
