Job Title: Farm Service Technician

Organizational Unit: Select Genetics

Department: Farms

Reports To: Breeder Division Manager

Location: Goldsboro, North Carolina

FLSA Status: Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE
This position is responsible for leading day-to-day operations of multiple farms in a safe and cost-effective way.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world. The Farm Service Technician requirements are as follows:

  • Basic math skills are essential.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Be a self-starter without the need for constant supervision.
  • Is required to drive a company vehicle and must pass a MVR.
  • Occasional delivery of supplies and equipment to various locations.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
  • Good reading skills.
  • Supervision of washing and disinfecting turkey production facilities in a safe and organized manner.
  • Follow all of the company’s rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare and safety.
  • Work productively with Farm Managers and peers in building an effective team.
  • Be willing to help in any area to get the job done.
  • Work with a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Have the ability to push, bend, stoop, squat, pull and lift 50lbs or more
  • Successfully work with live animals.
  • Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
  • Perform the duties of the job while constantly moving and using hands, occasionally lifting objects while being exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals and fumes.
  • Work an extended workday and weekends. Usually, weekend work is 1 weekend a month. Nighttime work (example may be 6:30 pm -2am or 3am to 10am) which includes bird move and sale which would be in a schedule of every 6 months rotation, depending on the production schedule and the number of farms assigned to the service tech. The next day of the overnight work will be scheduled off.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Follow the directives of the Division Breeder Manager.
  2. Effective time management.
  3. Ensure the safety of Select Genetics assets under the position’s management.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  5. Varied schedule where some weekends will be required, this will include overnight sale and move of birds in a rotation of every 6-month depending on the production schedule and farms assigned.
  6. Run/review activity reports determining the progress and status in attaining objectives, conference with the Breeder Division Manager and managers to revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  7. Follow and enforce all company regulations pertaining to bio security, animal welfare and safety. Keep employees on follow up training schedules.
  8. Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
  9. Lead, train, motivate, and mentor employees and managers on the farm with the objective of building and maintaining a high performing team to meet or exceed production goals.
  10. Responsibilities and tasks outlined in this document are not exhaustive and may change as determined by the needs of the company.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A College Degree in a related field (Poultry/Animal Science, Business, Agriculture) is preferred.
  • Does not own or operate around backyard poultry, foul, or swine operations off duty.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of animal husbandry and welfare preferred.
  • A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record is required.
  • A solid understanding of basic business practices; the ability to lead and manage others; the ability to build creative, productive, and cohesive teams; excellent communication skills including verbal, written and listening; the ability to be self-sufficient and able to organize and prioritize work; the ability to work under pressure; the ability to read and interpret relevant technical, industry, government regulations and legislation; the ability to communicate interact, influence, persuade all levels of employees. The incumbent must exhibit sound business judgement, be decisive, flexible, and have determination.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills a plus but not required
