UMR Career and Pre-Health Planning

UMR’s innovative approach to career development begins with its team of dedicated success coaches who work one-on-one with students to support students’ career exploration, decision making, and skill development. Coaches extend this expertise into the curriculum in required coursework, and the Director of Career Development supports career programming and vision. UMR students ultimately gain career skills and competencies that prepare and empower them to impact and transform medicine and healthcare as we know it.

Bridget Tetteh-Batsa, PhD

Director of Community Engagement & Career Development

Life Story
I earned my Doctor of Philosophy degree in English Language and Literature from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. I also earned two master’s degrees from Ohio University in Athens, OH: a Master of Arts degree in International Affairs (African Studies), and a Master of Arts degree in English language and Literature. Prior to my time at UMR, I worked as a teaching assistant professor of English at the University of North Dakota. My career coming-of-age story is filled with career mentors who inspired and supported me along the way. I am paying it forward. I am deeply committed to helping UMR students develop skills and competencies needed for successful careers in medicine and healthcare.

Role Responsibilities
As the Director of Community Engagement and Career Development, I partner with the success coach team to develop and implement the vision and strategy for UMR’s student-centered career awareness and career development work. I also work with industry and non-profit partners in the Rochester community and beyond to create community engagement, internships, research, and work-study opportunities for UMR students as they prepare to lead the future of healthcare.
