Career Story
Education and learning have always been passions. After growing up in the Twin Cities, I moved to the Washington D.C. area for college and discovered a love of working with students, becoming a social studies teacher. When I moved to Rochester, I was glad to find a position in the Admissions Office at UMR, finding new ways to work with students. I eventually wanted closer relationships with the students I recruited, so I pursued my masters degree and was lucky enough to move into a coaching role in 2012 and the director role in 2023. I love working with coaches to help students reflect, make decisions, and make the most out of their college experience. Â
Role Responsibilities
As the Director of the team, I work directly with Student Success Coaches to deliver high quality career and pre-health coaching to students pursuing a wide range of careers in the health sciences (in addition to academic and life coaching). Career coaching is embedded in a student’s advising experience at UMR.  In addition to helping students reflect on their career exploration and decision making, coaches provide career and pre-health services such as resume, cover letter, and personal statement reviews, interview prep practice, and application planning. I also work closely with the Director of Career and Community Engagement, system partners, graduate programs, and other campus colleagues to provide comprehensive information and meet the diverse career needs of students.Â
